Combining Sound and Meditation allows you to focus attention and put the mind and body in a state of harmony, which can improve health. The tradition that we will use has been handed down for centuries and starts with "HUM." This stimulates the inner ear and resets our fight or flight response in the brain, which is crucial to good internal and external communication. Combining meditation and sound is a fun and easy way to build balance and harmony in your life.

“The vocal nourishment that the mother and father provide to their child is just as important to the child’s development as Mom’s milk.” — Alfred Tomatis, M.D.
“Music and the Baby’s Brain” By Donna B. Fox
A growing body of evidence is confirming that even before birth, fetal brain development and perceptual learning are affected by experience including the fetus’ own sensory and motor experiences. Developmental psychologist John Lynch reports that a full term infant’s performance in detection of melodic alterations appeared to be influenced by perceptual experience from six months in utero up to birth, and an experiment involving infants born prematurely supported the hypothesis that experience affects music processing in infants. A study of premature babies in intensive care environments demonstrated that infants responded with differentiated changes in heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration when listening to a recording of contrasting music styles.
Why Music and Sound for Babies?
¤ At an Austin, Texas medical center, a study that has been conducted for the last 15 years found fifty percent of women who listened to music during childbirth didn’t need any anesthesia.
¤ In Vancouver, Canada, a group of women, under the direction of a music therapist, found that music reduced anxiety and encouraged relaxation during late pregnancy, offered alternatives to pain management medication during pregnancy, and influenced pre–and postnatal development. The mothers-to-be showed reduced anxiety, a “high level of satisfaction with the childbirth experience and the ability to soothe the infant through prenatal music.”
¤ The intensive care unit in Provo, Utah found that babies who were regularly sung or spoken to were released from the unit three days earlier, digest more calories, and gained more weight than a comparable group of infants that was not exposed to specific periods of adult speech or song.
The class is structured to start in your 4th month of pregnancy and continue through the first month after birth.

We enjoy working with children of all ages. Below are examples of the kinds of activities we offer.
Down and Around the Pond Workshop- Through a simple story, Zumi the little red frog invites friends to come down to the pond and make music together. Starting with a simple, grounding beat, building to an all-out jam and body jive as everyone adds their own contribution to build harmony and connect with each other. Zumi’s drumming sets the stage to re-establish our connection to ourselves and each other. Children make their own small drums, and includes brief history of drumming.
Sing and Hum Bumblebee Workshop - this interactive activity offers encouraging words, soothing music and teaches a simple coping tool for children and their families facing life's big and small challenges. Children hear the story a young Bumblebee who learning to find its way and overcome obstacles by singing a song taught by the wise Queen Bee! Children learn the song as they sing and hum along, and seem to relax and be able to better self regulate.
Rhythm Circles - utilize a wide range of percussion instruments to keep a steady beat and add a variety of sounds, each with their own “personality.” Participants experiment with different sounds and rhythms, while having fun making music and connecting with others. Each person makes their own unique contribution to the group, and leaves feeling that they have been part of something bigger.
